Prof Lange was based in Amsterdam and was one of the first international colleagues who helped us to get going with ART in the clinic at Somerset Hospital.
He was protocol chair of the 2NN study and some of our patients alive today owe their lives to this very seminal study.
Joep was larger than life- brilliant and visionary. He let nothing, including opposing ideas, philosophies or resources get in the way of doing the best for those living with HIV.
Jacqueline joined his efforts more recently and was a wonderfully loyal support.
It is truly impossible to think he is gone.
The world is a MUCH poorer place for his going – but he left us much to treasure. His drive and advocacy is a great example to us all.
The best we can do to honour him and Jacqueline is to redouble our fight in the struggle against HIV and TB.
In sadness
