The Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation is deeply saddened to hear that pioneering AIDS activist, Larry Kramer, has passed away at age 84 on Wednesday, 27 May. Kramer was one of the very first activists against AIDS, whose single-minded dedication to the cause helped galvanize innovative and coherent AIDS activism at a time when virtually nothing was known about the disease. A writer and playwright, Kramer was known for holding no punches in his fight to challenge stigma and misinformation about AIDS; foreseeing the devastating potential of the disease. He was a warrior in the field and will be greatly missed.
